chairman’s message

The matter of design cannot be taken lightly in today’s competitive world. The function and purpose of design could deeply impact our life, our society and the environment around us. The world’s economic focus is shifting as well as your client’s demand. Can we anticipate that change and make the right steps ahead? We will need to re-think how we use design, apply design and evaluate design.

As one of the well established designers association with longest history in Asia, we were founded by designers and is independent from any political and government body. We have close to 40 years of history and are the largest designers association in Hong Kong. With these background we do share the responsibility in contribution to the master plan of how Hong Kong make use creative design force to transit itself into the immense global arena.

Hong Kong is at the crossroads of economic and social changes. It’s role within China, the world and the use of design has become more significant. As a spear head of the design community we would like to target on the followings:

‧ Drive Hong Kong governmxent in building a solid foundation to nurture local design and promote them to China and the World

‧ Build closer ties with educational institutions to provide advance academic opportunity, and help design graduates to contribute to the industry

‧ Enhance the skills and knowledge of practicing designers to tackle the ever changing design needs

‧ Provide guidance for design users to increase their understanding, appreciation and utilization of design

How to design? What to design? Where to design? When to design? We, as designer alone cannot provide you with a perfect answer. It is up to every one of us to understand and embrace it. Answer these questions by making design matter.
